Sandwell Aquatics Centre

From world class sporting venue to community legacy.
The Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick was originally constructed to host one of the largest international sporting events of 2022, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, but its purpose extended far beyond the Games.
The project aimed to create a lasting legacy for the local community, transforming the Aquatics Centre into a vibrant and inclusive facility.
Sandwell Council’s vision focused on a long-term community legacy, ensuring the centre would serve local residents for years to come. Following the Games, the transformation included the removal of 4,000 spectator seats and the introduction of additional leisure facilities, enhancing accessibility and usability for the community.
