Newcastle High School for Girls

This project for the Girls’ Day School Trust involved the refurbishment of the existing Victorian building, including multiple extensions added over various periods, alongside a full strip-out and replacement of existing M&E services.

An infill extension was added to the existing building, coupled with façade repairs and a new build adjoining the existing structure. The project also included the refurbishment of hard and soft landscaping. Claywatt overcame logistical challenges presented by the school’s tight urban site with neighbouring houses.

The scheme incorporates 100% LED lighting, highly efficient heat recovery units, fabric ductwork to the new performance space, extensive CAT6A data infrastructure, and traditional steel and copper pipework installations, combining modern performance with sensitive refurbishment of a historic building.
